Meet the Maker – Sarah Sharp

Hi, I’m Sarah — the hands, heart and slightly glaze-splattered woman behind Sarah Sharp Ceramics.

I’m a mum of two wonderfully wild boys, and I found pottery at a time when I really needed something that was just for me. What began as a creative outlet quickly became something much bigger: a place to play, reset, experiment and make things that felt full of life.

From the first time I touched clay, I knew I’d found something special.

Now, I spend as much time as I can making ceramics full of colour, character and charm -from functional mugs and bowls to sculptural animals, fruit forms and joyful little pieces that seem to develop their own personalities as they’re made.

My Work

I work in stoneware with both wheel throwing and hand building, and I love the freedom of moving between the two.

Some days I’m making softly curved mugs, dishes and decorative pieces; other days I’m sculpting cheeky chickens, curious ducks, plump pumpkins, apples, pears and characterful creatures that make me smile....and hopefully make you smile too.

My work is playful, expressive and often inspired by nature, animals, fruit, soft curves and the lovely imperfections that come from making by hand. I’m drawn to layered glazes, gentle colours, wonky charm and pieces that feel warm, tactile and a little bit whimsical.

Every piece is individually handmade, so no two are ever exactly the same. I don’t aim for perfect repetition — I prefer the small differences, textures and quirks that make handmade ceramics feel alive.

Why I Make

For me, pottery is more than making objects. It’s a way to tell little stories through clay.

I want my pieces to feel joyful, comforting and full of personality — the kind of ceramics that make you pause, smile, or feel like you’ve found something that was meant just for you.

Whether you’re here for a handmade mug, a decorative apple and pear, a big-eyed chicken, or a piece of pottery with a little bit of mischief baked in, I’m so grateful you’re here.
